Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Burve Hair extensions

Product & Hair Quality
What type of hair are Burve extensions made from?
All Burve Hair extensions are made from 100% Remy human hair. Remy means the cuticles are kept intact and aligned in the same direction, which prevents tangling and gives the hair a natural, silky feel that blends seamlessly with your own.
What does "Super Double Drawn" mean?
Super Double Drawn means that 95% or more of the strands in each weft are full-length. Shorter hairs are meticulously removed during production, so you get thick, consistent volume from root to tip with no thin or wispy ends. It is the highest quality standard in the hair extension industry.
How long will my Burve extensions last?
With proper care, Burve extensions last 1 to 2 years. Lifespan depends on two key factors:
  • Hair colour: Darker shades (blacks, browns) last up to 2 years because the hair undergoes less chemical processing. Blonde and lighter shades typically last around 1 year, as the lightening process makes the hair more delicate over time.
  • Heat styling: Frequent curling and straightening shortens the lifespan. If you heat-style daily, expect closer to 6–12 months. If you wear your extensions mostly straight or use low heat, you'll get the full 1–2 years out of them.
The bottom line: treat them well, and they'll last. Go easy on the heat, wash gently, and store properly between wears.
Can I heat-style my extensions?
Yes. Because they are 100% human hair, you can curl, straighten, and blow-dry your Burve extensions. We recommend keeping the temperature at or below 180 °C (356 °F) and always applying a heat protectant spray before styling to preserve the hair's longevity.
Can I colour or dye my extensions?
You can dye your extensions darker without issue. However, we strongly advise against bleaching or lightening them, as this damages the cuticle layer and significantly shortens their lifespan. If you need a lighter shade, we recommend choosing a lighter colour from our range instead. For best results, have a professional colourist handle the dyeing.
Will the extensions blend with my natural hair?
Burve extensions are designed to blend seamlessly. With 57+ shades including solids, blends, piano highlights, balayage, and ombré options, you can find a match for virtually any hair colour. For the best match, compare shades in natural daylight, or email us a photo at hello@burvehair.com for a personalised colour match recommendation.
Do you offer colour swatch rings?
Yes. We sell Colour Swatch Rings so you can see and feel the actual hair shades in person before committing to a full set. Browse our swatch ring products in the shop to find the one that covers the shades you are considering.
Are Burve extensions ethically sourced?
Absolutely. We are committed to ethical sourcing practices. Our Remy human hair is responsibly sourced from donors, and every step of our supply chain prioritises fair treatment and transparency.
Do the extensions shed?
Minimal shedding is normal during the first few uses, similar to what you experience with your own hair. Because our wefts are reinforced and the hair is Super Double Drawn, shedding is kept to a minimum. Avoid brushing the extensions when wet and always use a wide-tooth comb or loop brush to further reduce shedding.
What is the difference between Remy and non-Remy hair?
Remy hair has all cuticles intact and aligned in the same direction, which prevents matting and tangling. Non-Remy hair has cuticles stripped and is typically coated in silicone to mimic smoothness; once that coating washes off, the hair tangles and deteriorates quickly. Burve uses only Remy hair for lasting quality.
Choosing Your Extensions
What types of extensions do you offer?
We offer six types of premium hair extensions:
  • Clip-In Extensions — Multi-weft sets you clip in and remove yourself
  • Halo Extensions — A single weft on an invisible wire
  • Tape-In Extensions — Thin adhesive wefts applied by a stylist
  • Keratin U-Tip Extensions — Individual strands fused with a keratin bond
  • Ponytail Extensions — Instant ponytail using a claw clip
  • Clip-In Bangs — Fringe pieces including curtain bangs, clipped in instantly
Which extension type is best for beginners?
Clip-in extensions are the most beginner-friendly option. They require no professional installation, can be applied in minutes, and are removed before sleeping. Halo extensions are another excellent zero-commitment choice since they simply sit on your head like a headband. Ponytail extensions are the fastest transformation — just clip over a bun and you're done in seconds. And if you want a semi-permanent, wear-and-forget option, tape-in extensions are a great choice — once applied by a stylist, you wake up with perfect hair every day.
Which type causes the least damage to natural hair?
Halo extensions cause zero damage because they sit on an invisible wire that rests on your head; nothing is attached to your natural hair. Clip-ins are also very low-damage since they are temporary. Tape-ins and keratin bonds, while semi-permanent, cause minimal damage when applied and removed by a professional.
What lengths are available?
Our extensions are available from 30 cm to 75 cm (12" to 30"), with availability varying by extension type. As a guide:
  • 30–40 cm (12"–16") — Falls around the shoulders to mid-back; great for adding volume and subtle length
  • 45–55 cm (18"–22") — Reaches mid to lower back; our most popular range
  • 60–75 cm (24"–30") — Falls at the waist and beyond; maximum drama and length
How do I choose the right length?
Measure from the top of your ear (roughly where extensions would be placed) down to where you want the hair to fall. Keep in mind that curling or waving will shorten the apparent length by 1-2 inches. If you are between sizes, we generally recommend going with the longer option since extensions can always be trimmed.
What weights do you offer, and how much do I need?
Our extensions range from 100 g to 200 g depending on the type and desired coverage.
  • 100 g — Ideal for fine to thin hair, adds volume and a subtle boost
  • 150 g — The sweet spot for most people; natural fullness and length
  • 200 g — Full, luxurious volume for thick hair or a glamorous, head-turning look
If you are unsure, email us with a photo of your hair and we will recommend the right weight.
How do I find my perfect colour match?
We recommend these steps:
  • Natural daylight: Always compare shades in natural light, not under artificial or bathroom lighting
  • Photo colour match: Email a photo of your hair to hello@burvehair.com and our team will recommend the closest shade
  • Swatch rings: Order a Colour Swatch Ring to see and feel the actual shades before buying a full set
Your extensions do not need to be a 100% exact match. A shade that is very close will still blend beautifully once styled with your natural hair.
What shade options do you carry?
We offer 57+ shades across five colour families:
  • Solids — Single, uniform colours from jet black to platinum blonde
  • Blends — Two or more colours mixed throughout for a natural, multi-tonal look
  • Piano Highlights — Alternating colour panels woven together for a highlighted effect
  • Balayage — Hand-painted gradual colour transition, lighter toward the ends
  • Ombré — A distinct darker-to-lighter gradient from root to tip
What if my shade falls between two colours?
If you are between shades, choose the one closest to your mid-lengths and ends, since that is where the extensions will be most visible. You can also mix two sets of similar shades for a custom, dimensional look. Feel free to email us at hello@burvehair.com for personalised advice.
I have fine / thin hair. Which type is best?
For fine or thin hair, we recommend Halo extensions (zero attachment points, so no stress on fragile strands) or a lighter-weight Clip-In set (100–150 g). Tape-in extensions in thinner wefts can also work beautifully since they distribute weight evenly and lie very flat.

Note: Keratin U-tip extensions are not recommended for fine or thin hair, as the bonds require sufficient hair density to hold securely.
Can I wear extensions with short hair?
Yes, though your natural hair should be at least 4-5 inches long (roughly chin length) for most extension types so the wefts and bonds stay concealed. Clip-in bangs work at virtually any length. If your hair is very short, consult with a stylist to determine the best approach.
How do I choose between tape-ins and keratin U-tips?
Tape-ins are quicker to apply (about 45-60 minutes), lie extremely flat, and are reusable for 1–2 years. They need to be moved up every 6-8 weeks. Keratin U-tips are individual strands fused with heat, offering more versatile placement (including around the face and parting) and lasting 2-6 months. U-tips require professional installation and removal. Choose tape-ins for speed and ease; choose U-tips for maximum versatility and a longer wear period.
Application & Use
How do I apply clip-in extensions?
  • Section your hair horizontally, starting at the nape of your neck
  • Lightly backcomb or tease the root area where each weft will sit for extra grip
  • Open the clips on the weft, press them into the root area, and snap them shut
  • Release the next section of hair, smooth it over the weft, and repeat as you work upward
  • Blend by gently combing your natural hair over the wefts
The entire process takes just 5-10 minutes once you have practised a few times.
Do I need to remove clip-ins before sleeping?
Yes, always remove clip-in extensions before going to bed. Sleeping with them in causes unnecessary friction and tangling, which shortens the lifespan of both the extensions and your natural hair. Removal takes under a minute.
How does the Halo extension work?
The Halo is a single weft attached to a thin, invisible wire that sits on top of your head like a headband. Your own hair falls over the wire, completely concealing it. There is zero damage. To apply, simply place the wire on your head, pull your natural hair over it, and blend. To remove, lift it off. It takes about 30 seconds.
Can I adjust the Halo wire to fit my head?
Yes. The wire is flexible and can be gently bent to follow the contour of your head for a secure, comfortable fit. Most customers find the standard size fits well without adjustment.
How are tape-in extensions applied?
Tape-ins use the sandwich method: a thin section of your natural hair is placed between two adhesive wefts, which are pressed together. The tape lies completely flat against your head. We recommend professional application for the best results. A full installation typically takes 45-60 minutes.
How often do tape-ins need to be moved up?
Every 6-8 weeks, as your natural hair grows and the bonds move away from the scalp. Your stylist will remove the wefts, replace the adhesive tape, and reinstall them closer to the root. Each set of Burve tape-ins can be reused for 1–2 years with proper care.
Can I install keratin U-tip extensions myself?
Professional installation is required for keratin U-tips. They are applied strand by strand using a heat fusion tool that melts the keratin bond around a small section of your natural hair. Incorrect application can damage your hair, so please always visit a qualified stylist.
How long do keratin U-tip bonds last?
Keratin U-tip bonds typically last 1–2 years depending on your hair growth rate, lifestyle, and aftercare. They should be removed and (if the hair is still in good condition) potentially reinstalled by a professional once the bonds have grown out.
How do I attach the ponytail extension?
Our ponytail extension uses a claw clip for instant attachment:
  • Pull your natural hair into a ponytail or bun at your desired height
  • Open the claw clip on the extension and clamp it over your ponytail base
  • Adjust the extension to sit naturally over your bun
  • Secure with a bobby pin if needed
It takes under a minute and gives you instant, voluminous glam.
How do I apply clip-in bangs?
Clip-in bangs have a solid base with 3 pressure-sensitive clips that attach along the top of the hairline. Simply part your hair where you want the fringe to sit, snap the clips in at the root, and blend. They can be trimmed to your preferred length and style, including curtain bangs. It is a great way to try a new look before committing to cutting your own hair.
Can I wear extensions while exercising?
Clip-ins and halos can be worn during light exercise, though we recommend tying them in a loose braid or low ponytail to minimise friction. For intense workouts with heavy sweating, it is better to remove temporary extensions. Tape-ins and keratin bonds are semi-permanent, so they stay in during all activities; just wash and dry your hair afterward to prevent product buildup at the bonds.
Can I wear extensions in a ponytail or updo?
Yes. Clip-in and tape-in extensions can be styled into ponytails, buns, braids, and updos. Position wefts slightly lower than usual if you plan to wear a high ponytail, so the clips or tapes remain concealed. Halo extensions are designed to be worn down and may not suit updos. Our dedicated Ponytail extension is the easiest option for an instant updo look.
Care & Maintenance
How do I wash my extensions?
  • Use sulfate-free shampoo and a hydrating conditioner
  • Wash in lukewarm water (never hot)
  • Gently work the shampoo downward from mid-shaft to ends; do not scrub or bunch the hair
  • Apply conditioner from mid-shaft to ends, avoiding the bonds, clips, or tape
  • Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water with a microfibre towel
  • Air-dry flat on a towel or use a blow-dryer on a low-heat setting
How often should I wash clip-in extensions?
Clip-in extensions should be washed every 5–10 wears, or whenever there is noticeable product buildup. Over-washing strips the hair of its natural oils and shortens its lifespan. Between washes, you can refresh them with a light leave-in conditioner or dry shampoo.
How do I brush my extensions without damaging them?
Always use a wide-tooth comb or a loop/extension-friendly brush. Start detangling from the ends and work your way up to avoid pulling and shedding. Never brush extensions when they are soaking wet; wait until they are damp or dry. Hold the weft or bond area while brushing to reduce stress on the attachment point.
How should I store my extensions?
Store them in the original box or a silk/satin bag in a cool, dry place. Lay them flat or hang them on an extension hanger. Never store extensions while they are wet or damp, as this promotes mould and odour. Before storing, gently detangle and ensure they are completely dry.
Can I swim with my extensions?
We recommend avoiding chlorinated pools and salt water, as both dry out and damage human hair extensions. If you do swim, apply a leave-in conditioner before entering the water, wear your hair in a loose braid, and rinse with fresh water immediately afterward. Remove clip-in and halo extensions before swimming whenever possible.
Can I sleep with my extensions in?
Clip-in and halo extensions should always be removed before bed. Tape-in and keratin extensions are semi-permanent and are worn while sleeping. To protect them overnight, braid your hair loosely or tie it in a low ponytail, and sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to minimise friction and tangling.
What products should I use on my extensions?
  • Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner — essential to preserve moisture and colour
  • Heat protectant spray — before any heat styling
  • Leave-in conditioner or argan oil — for hydration and shine
  • Dry shampoo — to refresh between washes
Avoid products containing alcohol, sulfates, or parabens, as these strip moisture and shorten the hair's lifespan.
My extensions are tangling. What should I do?
Tangling usually happens due to dryness or friction. Try these steps:
  • Apply a deep-conditioning mask once a week
  • Use a leave-in conditioner or serum on the mid-lengths and ends
  • Detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb, starting from the tips
  • Avoid sleeping with temporary extensions in
  • Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase if you wear semi-permanent extensions
How do I maintain tape-in adhesive?
Avoid applying oils, conditioners, or silicone-based products directly on the tape bonds, as these weaken the adhesive. When washing, shampoo gently around the bonds without scrubbing them. Your stylist will replace the adhesive tape at each 6-8 week maintenance appointment.
How can I extend the lifespan of my extensions?
  • Wash sparingly with sulfate-free products
  • Always use a heat protectant and keep heat below 180 °C / 356 °F
  • Store properly in a silk/satin bag or original packaging when not in use
  • Detangle gently with the right tools
  • Avoid chlorine, salt water, and excessive sun exposure
  • Remove clip-ins and halos before sleeping
  • Follow the recommended maintenance schedule for tape-ins and keratin bonds
